Me on location at historic St James Church in Bronzeville before the take down.
St. James Catholic Church was completed in 1880 and was designed by famed Architect Patrick C. Keely. Remember Keely also designed Holy Name Cathedral on North side. I believe I had read the tower was the tallest in the city. I remember we tried to get in but were denied access on this day back in 2012. #stjameschurch#Bronzeville#Chicago#andifiles#myphoto#churchsteeple#historichurch ** more photos on my Flickr page of actual demolition in 2013. The tower was the last piece of this historic church to come down. #tbt#filter used this day was great for the mood we were in. #sad #⛪ #churchdemolished#Architecture#urbanphoto thanks Abena!
Alright, let’s take it back to 1999 for #wbw. OHPC owner Tom pulled this steeple off an 1856 church he dismantled in North Auburn, Maine. He used all the pieces from the church to build a new house for his family - the steeple was placed in the backyard and used as a gazebo. Pretty cool, eh?
