Alfa Romeo 33 QV symbol detail.
Probably Quadrifoglio Verde logo is one of the most recognisable icons of the automotive industry. That means something in Alfa's history. When you see it, you know that you are in front of the highest performance model, in front of something special: Alfa P2, Alfetta 159, Giulia Sprint, Alfa 33, Alfa 155... The guilty of this heritage was Ugo Sivocci when presented to his team a Quadrifoglio at the start of the 14th Targa Florio (a mithycal logo for a mithycal race). And this team wasn't any team... It was the official Alfa Romeo's first factory racing team with Enzo Ferrari, Antonio Ascari (THE MASTER), Giuseppe Campari and Ugo Sivocci. Yes, they were not one-armed. Sivocci was really quick and a very experienced driver, but always was considered the "eternally second" because his bad luck. But in 1923 decided to use a four-leaf clover inside a diamond painted on the car... And he won. Sadly, Sivocci died later that year during practice for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza (at the current Variante Ascari). The Quadrifoglio hadn’t yet been painted on his Alfa Romeo P1 race car. From 1924, the symbol was used in all Alfa Romeo's racing cars, but Sivocci's death was recognized in a symbolic change to the Quadrifoglio: one of the points was removed, creating the Quadrifoglio triangle emblem that continues to this day.
So, next time you were in front of a QV symbol, think in other age. An epic time when motor racing was an incredibly dangerous sport that often claimed the lives of its most talented drivers. A time when some heroes as Sivocci, Ferrari, Ascari and Campari drived Alfa Romeo cars together... #alfa#alfaromeo#alfaromeo33#quadrifoglio#quadrifoglioverde#qv#alfa33#alfa33qv#alfa33quadrifoglioverde#sivocci#enzoferrari#ascari#albertoascari#targafiorio#drivetastefully#instacars#italiancars#carspotter#carspotting#oldschollcars#oldskoolcars#classiccars#vintagecars
