Normandy, FR 709-19th C. (Romanesque, Gothic)
In a vision in 709, Aubert, the Bishop of Avranches, was commanded by the Archangel Michael to erect a church on this island in Mont St-Michel Bay in the English Channel. It is an iconic structure (image 1), that for honeymooners is the French equivalent (image 2) of Niagara Falls. In 966 the island came under the protection of Norman dukes (image 3 is from the Bayeaux Tapestry that shows the island in the center), who took a special interest in its church buildings as well as its defense.
Its defense was relatively easy, as it enjoys one of the deepest tidal variations in Europe (up to 46’ deep) that at high tide would cut the island off from the mainland. Over the centuries, a number of building campaigns have resulted in a multistoried abbey (image 4) that forms the plinth upon which was erected the church proper.
During this same period, a small town (image 4) evolved along the winding footpath (image 6) to the top of the plinth (image 7), a vertical climb of approximately 250.’ #montstmichel, #historyofarchitecture, #romanesquearchitecture, #gothicarchitecture, #normans,

In Antwerp all the roads lead to the Cathedral of Our Lady.
Все дороги славного города Антверпен ведут к Собору Антверпенской Богоматери, который является не только главной достопримечательностью, но и отличным ориентиром благодаря своей 120-метровой башне.
Posted @withrepost • @777golgotha 👉For all the legalistic and overly religious people, that swear that we only truly worship God in a building, or by praying to inanimate objects.👈 all we need to do is accept Jesus, and pray and ask for the Holy Spirit to come into our lives. And fellowship 💜 the rest was done for us, He will change our mindset and our hearts over time, day by day. Our body is the Holy Spirit's dwelling place. WE are the church, NOT a building. (book of ACTS) 🔥“God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands. 25 Nor is He worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring." - #Acts17:24-28
