Why is bone health important? Osteoporosis is a condition that causes the bones to become brittle and easily fracture. This is most common in the elderly when healing is slower, which can cause extreme pain and other complications. The causes of osteoporosis are not very well understood, but it is a preventable condition. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are some vitamins that are essential for bone health and an example of a food they’re found in. In general, the foods that are good for bone health are dark leafy greens, eggs, dairy products, fish, fortified tofu, and fortified non-dairy mylks. A complete list of foods for each vitamin can be found online. These foods should be consumed regularly during growth and adulthood. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fun fact: Vitamin D and magnesium increase the absorption of calcium!

I ❤️LOVE ♥️stories like this👇👇👇 Sounds VERY FAMILIAR...🙋🏻♀️ ⠀
Do you know anyone who would like to try something that WORKS? Here is Kim H’s experience in her words: ⠀
❌I was a skeptic ❌⠀
This was me on the left. A stay at home mom with 4 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 Husband and No #Energy to keep up. ⠀
I was severely overweight, overwhelmed, frustrated with my appearance and I knew I had to do something. I was starting to workout, but was still lacking the energy and still had the mommy pouch that no matter what I did, could never get rid of it. ⠀
That all changed when I saw my husband, Steve, with these Body Wraps. I laughed because he buys everything. He said “try them, they work.” Well, I had to prove him wrong, I tried the first wrap saw a little result, then the 2nd, 3rd and 4th. I was in shock. They did work. He says “we aren’t called It Works for nothing.”⠀
So I started drinking our greens to help alkalize my body, and it gave me a ton of a natural energy. Then we came out with a protein shake, then Keto Coffee and now Ketones.⠀
This is the best I have ever looked and felt. I am almost 50, can you believe it!? I am so confident that I even entered a beauty pageant on my 50th Birthday. 👑⠀
What makes a good breakfast? High protein, high fiber, high fat, and low sugar! Protein, fiber, and fat slow the absorption of sugar, keeping your energy more level throughout the morning and avoiding a crash. 🚫
Whole grain toast with avocado, egg, and a vegetable on the side, provides the perfect balance. Whole grain toast has protein and fiber, avocado has healthy fats, eggs have healthy fats and protein, and it’s always good to have some added vegetables! 🍞🥑🥚🍅 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Visit the @pinchofyum blog and search “simple poached egg avocado toast” for the recipe. Lindsay has even provided a little tutorial to make the perfect poached egg! 🍳
Today is the first time my gut feels healthy, so I’m directing my focus from detoxing to strength building.
Here is a complete workflow of my diet and exercise plan for the rest of February 2018. In March my diet will consist of mono fruit, specifically mangos, for a month 😄💗 stay healthy beautiful people!
Are vegetable oils as healthy as we think? 🤔 Although they have some benefits, vegetable oils are highly processed to form a shelf-stable product and contain high levels of trans fat and omega-6. Trans fat has been linked to heart disease and stroke and high consumption of omega-6 can contribute to chronic inflammation, which is thought to cause or amplify other conditions like asthma, arthritis, heart disease, and many more. ☹️
For a healthy heart, try using extra virgin olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil for cooking, roasting, and baking. ♥️

What makes a healthier fast food option? Generally speaking, an option that is high in protein, fiber, and has a few vegetables is a good place to start. 🥗 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Oven Roasted Chicken Sandwich from Subway’s Fresh Fit is just that. 👌 Served on 9-grain wheat bread with oven roasted chicken, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and cucumbers, this sandwich hits the marks for an option with more nutrition. 🥪 Keeping the meal low in added sugars is also something to keep in mind - adding mustard or avocado for flavor instead of a sauce reduces the sugar content. 🥑 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You’ll make time for what’s important for you.🤔
And meal prepping is extremely important to me. I am going to the extreme for the program, but I won’t always prep this much. This helps so much with sticking to this program. .
The good news.... the more meals I try, the more I find recipes that the whole family likes. So at some point I won’t have to prep dinners. I’ll be able to eat what they eat with still being able to control my portions and know long exactly what containers I’m using, such as carbs, proteins, fruits, veggies, etc. .
So while i spend most of my weekend prepping for the week to come (planning, grocery shopping, prepping)... I’m ok with that for now. This test group is very important to me. So I am purposely getting “obsessed” with the nutrition. It’s not a bad thing. I mean it’s called 80 Day Obsession for a reason. 😂
I could stick to boring meals and have it be the same week after week, but then I would have nothing to look forward to. I enjoy eating tasty meals... so While I am making it very time consuming.... it’s worth it right now. 🙌🏻
I’m tired and I am exhausted.... but I’m so relieved it’s all done!!😊
My Wednesday meals look a little different than the rest of the week. We have a refeed day coming up. And I’m super excited!! I’ll talk all about it in my live video tomorrow about the meals I’ve prepped this week. So stay tuned!! 💕
When fast food is the only option, how do you choose wisely? 🤔 Find the ingredient list! All fast food franchises, like Subway, McDonalds, and Burger King, are required to provide nutritional information to the public. This information can be found online or in-store. 📄
The ingredient list can help you decide which option is the healthiest since the names of the food or dish can often be deceiving. Let’s take Subway as an example and compare the honey oat bread to the 9-grain wheat bread. Swipe right to view their ingredient lists. 👉
The honey oat bread sounds like one of the healthiest options at Subway because oats are known to be a nutritious grain. But if you look at the ingredient list, the honey oat bread is simply the 9-grain wheat bread with a mixture of rolled oats, brown sugar, honey, wheat starch, and natural flavor added on top. 😕 The benefits of the additional oats on top are outweighed by the additional sugar.
The 9-grain wheat bread is one of the best options at Subway (or you can try the multigrain flatbread which also contains whole grains.) 🍞

Did you know that Google has two definitions for the word “diet?”⠀
“A special course of food to which one restricts oneself, either to lose weight or for medical reasons.” - the negative connotation that is commonly associated with the word diet.⠀
“The kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats.” - the definition I prefer to associate to the word.⠀
Think about what you habitually eat — is it the kind of diet you should be eating for the goals you are trying to accomplish? Or is it contradictory to what you want to do?⠀
At REM Athletics & Nutrition we pride ourselves in educating our clients in what they should eat and how much of it.⠀
If you think this is something you can benefit from, enlist our services and we can help you accomplish your goals.
Buddha bowls, grain bowls, and burrito bowls 🥣 are all good options for a balanced and tasty meal with all the essential macronutrients: carbohydrates, protein, and fat. ⚖️
This recipe by @minimalistbaker for a Sweet Potato and Spiced Chickpea Bowl is an example. The chickpeas and the tahini provide the protein. The sweet potato, broccolini, and kale are the carbs. The cooking oil and dressing provide the fat. Anything can be added or substituted to complement your tastes. 👅 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t like kale? Try spinach ⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t like sweet potatoes? Try any winter squash. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t like tahini? Try almond or peanut butter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Don’t have broccolini? Use broccoli.
Need more protein? Add brown rice or quinoa. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Head to the @minimalistbaker blog, search “Sweet Potato and Chickpea Buddha Bowl” and make this bowl yours!

Falafel with hummus recipe made with chickpeas.
Health Benefits of Chickpeas: A very versatile legume, they are a noted ingredient in many Middle Eastern dishes such as hummus and falafel.
Fiber Advantage and Weight Loss: Like other beans, Chickpeas, are rich in both soluble and insoluble dietary fiber.
Protein for Vegetarians: Chickpeas are a good source of protein.
Iron Boost: Garbanzos can boost your energy because of their high iron content. This is particularly important for menstruating women, pregnant or lactating women and growing children. Iron is an integral component of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen from the lungs to all body cells, and is part of key enzyme systems for energy production and metabolism.
Stabilizing Blood Sugar and Low Glycaemic Index (GI): Soluble fiber helps stabilize blood sugar levels. If you have insulin resistance, hypoglycemia or diabetes, beans like garbanzosor chickpeas can help you balance blood sugar levels.
Heart Healthy: Regular intake of Chickpeas can lower LDL (bad) and total cholesterol.
Weight Loss: Due to high fiber content and low GI, chickpeas are excellent for weight loss diets. Salad with chickpeas are tasty and can keep you full longer, controlling the appetite.
Poor posture can cause body pains, poor digestion, and limited breathing.😯 Oftentimes, poor posture is the result of weak muscles. The plank is one exercise that can strengthen many of the muscles required for good posture, like your shoulders, back, glutes, and core. 🙂 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Try a plank on your hands or forearms, whichever is most comfortable to you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Place your hands or elbows beneath your shoulders and keep your toes on the ground. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Keep your back in line with your head and toes, tightening your glutes for stability. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Look about one foot in front of you to keep your neck in a neutral position. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Hold for 20 seconds to start and increase the time as you continue your practice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Remember to breathe. 🌬⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

#Protein is an essential macronutrient for a functioning body. 🕺But not every protein is the same. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein, they’re like the legos of Legoland. 🏰 There are a total of 20 amino acids that partner up in different ways to make all the proteins in our body. Our body can make most of these amino acids on its own, but there are 8 amino acids that have to come from a dietary source. These are called the essential amino acids. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not every source of protein has all 8 of the essential amino acids. This is why it is important to eat a variety of foods! Grains, legumes, eggs, meat, fish, nuts/seeds, and dairy products are all sources of protein. 🍚🥜🍳🍖🐟🥛

#HealthPlanOfTheDay Blood Pressure
What Is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is the pressure that is exerted on the blood vessels as it circulates around the body. As the heart beats, the blood pressure varies from minimum (diastolic) to maximum (systolic) pressure.
What Causes Blood Pressure Problems?
The difference in the mean blood pressure is responsible for the blood flowing from one location into another through circulation.
High blood pressure (hypertension) is measured in millimetres
of mercury as either systolic, i.e. the pressure of blood when the heart beats to pump blood out, or diastolic, which is the pressure of blood when the heart is resting in between the beats. This is reflective of how strongly the arteries are resisting any blood flow. • Normal blood pressure is recorded as around 130/80mmHg
as this is considered normal. • High blood pressure is in the region of 140/90mmHg or
higher. • Low blood pressure is recorded as being around 90/60.
Very high or low blood pressure may be the sign of underlying health problems, although high blood pressure is more dangerous to the body. High blood pressure risk increases with age and may be related to poor diet, obesity, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes, drinking excess alcohol, undergoing stress, and depression.
Much of the time, there’s no need to be alarmed about having low blood pressure. Mild symptoms may be perfectly fine.
Certain individuals have a naturally low, naturally healthy blood
Blood Pressure #FAQ
Q: Is it safe to take Serrapeptase when one already has low
A: It is safe, but you must start with a low dose and build up
slowly. Stop carbs completely.
#TestimonialCustomer “I take the BlockBuster AllClear in the morning and afternoon on an empty stomach, two at a time. I also take 4 Curcumin capsules with dinner daily. I have had awesome results with my blood pressure and would like to continue to take both products at a maintenance level.
I have been taking both products for about 5 months.” - Cherie

The better your water tastes, the more you’ll drink, and the more hydrated you’ll be! 😋 Add fresh fruit, herbs, or spices to your water to make it more exciting. Here are some ideas for flavor combinations:
•Lime and mint
•Orange and cinnamon (use a cinnamon stick!)
•Lemon and ginger
•Strawberry and cucumber ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Lemon and raspberry ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Grapefruit and rosemary ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
•Anything you love! ♥️
One of my fav winter salads! 💛 Orange & fennel ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 orange, segmented or sliced against the grain ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1 bulb fennel, sliced parallel to its bottom to form rings + fronds
Kalamata olives, in brine or salt-cured
Balsamic vinegar, ACV, sherry, or champagne*
Arrange orange slices and fennel & top with rest of ingredients. 😍 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
*Balsamic is best but the others will work! I haven’t been able to find a good balsamic thats not too sweet and doesn’t contain grape must, so I used ACV!
It is estimated that about 75% of the population drinks less than the recommended amount of water per day. 🌊 Dehydration doesn’t need to be extreme to feel some of its effects. 👆
Experts recommend drinking about one ounce per pound of bodyweight a day. For example, a 160 pound man would need about 160 ounces per day. 🧔 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The amount you need depends on your activity level, medications, salt intake, and other factors, so listen to your body. 👂🕵️♂️
Want a high protein snack but don’t like hummus? No problem! Any beans can be used to make a delicious, creamy dip for snacking with raw veggies, to slather on sandwiches, or to add to salads. 🥗 🥪 🥕 ⠀⠀⠀
This recipe by Simple Bites uses black beans as the high protein, high fiber substitute. Protein and fiber satisfy hunger, keep you regular, build muscle, regulate blood sugar levels, and help the body remove toxins. Despite all the benefits, this dip does not lack in flavor - cumin, lime, green chiles, and cayenne pepper are some of the tasty additions. 😻⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Visit simplebites.net and search “Black Bean Hummus with Lime and Cumin” for the recipe.

Studies have shown being on a sports team helps manage and prevent anxiety and depression. 🤼♀️ This is largely from a combination of having a support group and regular exercise. 👯♂️ Exercise increases your feel-good hormones and decreases the hormones related to depression and anxiety. 🤗
Make your own team with your buddies and meet every week for a long walk, short run, or some high intensity workouts. You can reap these benefits too! 🤝

We are inundated with these ideas that in order to be healthier, we need to follow a super strict diet, never have treats, workout like a dog & basically not enjoy life.
If you go to a health professional & they present you with a health plan that includes any of the following things, R U N.
1. A meal plan that is plain. I'm talking chicken, rice, tilapia, rice, vegetables. Repeat.
2. A plan that allows for NO flexibility or treats.
3. A plan that promotes "never miss Mondays" or "workout til you throw up".
4. A plan that you try for a week and absolutely hate.
5. A nutrition plan that cuts out all your favourite foods (yes, even if it's ice cream)
6. One that makes you dread eating out, special occasions and holidays.
7. The one that has you obsessing over calories.
8. The one that has you missing out on life because "you have to workout".
A health plan SHOULD include:
1. More of what you love.
2. More freedom.
3. More choice.
4. The ability to enjoy life & all that it throws your way.
6. Move and grow with you.
7. Empower & motivate you.
8. Something you actually enjoy and want to follow.
Your health is important for many reasons, but one of the main reasons is because good health allows us to enjoy life to the absolute freakin' fullest. That's the type of health plan you deserve!

Fructose, like glucose*, is a simple sugar. 🍭 It’s found in most whole foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds, legumes, and grains. 🍎 It’s also found in sweeteners like table sugar, high-fructose corn syrup, agave nectar, and others. 🍯
Fructose is primarily metabolized in the liver, which is unlike any other sugar. Because of this distinction, a high consumption of fructose puts the liver under a lot of pressure. ⚠️ If there is too much sugar for the body to use immediately, the liver converts fructose into triglycerides (TGs). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood. Studies in rats show that high TG levels can contribute to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which if left untreated can lead to cirrhosis or even liver cancer. 😧 *If you need a refresher on glucose, visit the tag #livsugar to read our post.
