Tomorrow, Toby Collis is taking over youbcsnaps as part of our ongoing Residence Life Takeover series: "I am a semester away from finishing my theology degree at UBC's beautiful Okanagan campus. I'll be showing you why living on residence is amazing, why our campus is unbeatably convenient, and why I chose my gruelingly difficult New Year's Resolution. Can't wait to show you all #UBCO has to offer!"
Was digging some UBC archives today and to my complete surprise I found out that 24-year-old Billy Joel opened up for The Beach Boys at UBC’s War Memorial Gym on Nov. 4, 1973. It was his first time in Vancouver. The review is from the Nov. 6, 1973 issue of The Ubyssey (@ubyssey). This was before Billy Joel was Billy Joel. “Piano Man” was yet to be released and “The Stranger” was four years away. Five days later, on Nov. 9, 1973, he would release “Piano Man,” his first album for Columbia Records. Well, I guess I came to do my masters at UBC 42 years behind the 8-ball. #vancouver#vancouverhistory#ubc#ubcvancouver#warmemorialgym#billyjoel#pianoman #1973 #theubyssey#universityofbritishcolumbia
