In the 24/7 world of 21st century finance, it amazing that the City of London including the historic Leadenhall Market still completely shuts down and is more or less abandoned on Saturdays. #london#cityoflondon#uk#wandering#wanderlust
Haddon Hall, Derbyshire - UK.
It is a fortified medieval Manor House, begun in the 12th century.
It’s odd how we travel so far but often don’t visit what’s on our own doorsteps. I barely even knew of this amazing house, just a few miles away until a few months ago. The house and grounds are wonderful and have been used for films including three versions of Jayne Eyre, The Princess Bride, The Other Boleyn Girl and Elizabeth.
So the view wasn't the only cool thing about Haneul Park. Before the 2002 World Cup (and the development that started in 1996) this whole place used to be a literal dump. But the city worked to reclaim the land and turn it back into a place where nature can thrive once more and humans can interact with it in a more constructive way than just dumping garbage. To that end, areas have been reforestation with the top of the hill turned into a grassland and things like these birdhouses have been built both as art and a way to draw wildlife back. Oh, and the methane is piped out and used for energy so you would never know it used to be a rotting heap.

Here we have The Panthéon. It was originally built as a church dedicated to Saint Genevieve (the patron saint of Paris) but after many changes it is now a mausoleum, containing the remains of distinguished French citizens.
