Surrounded by the prettiest of ferns, chilled by the cold pristine waters and finding pockets of seeping light through the crevices above. It's these moments of solitude I revel in, in the constrictions of the often overlooked canyon of the Grand Canyon walk in Blackheath.
Omar very pleasant day out, (undoubtedly chilly in the canyon) I guided a small eager group of adventurers and nature seekers out to the Grand Canyon trail in the Blue mountains, which some had done previously before, but never sought into the canyon.
Avoiding the abseil by taking the exit route upstream, the intially large cavities of the canyon began to constrict more and more almost a kilometre in before doubling back the way we came. It's then that I took some time at the end to sit and ponder while also taking a selfie.
Location: Canyons of the Grand Canyon Trail, Blackheath, Blue Mountains - NSW
Directions: After heading to Blackheath and Evans Lookout Road, park at one of the carparks and start the famous roughly 3 hour loop trail. The back entrance to the canyons are located near the midpoint section which is marked by a NSWPS sign pole and do require short swims at certain points but the first few sections can be done without getting wet. (DM for specific directions to canyon) **Note: All canyons are potentially dangerous due their unkept and remote nature and often lack of access to any reception. Safety gear is always recommended and your whereabouts should always be known to another.**
Highlights: This spectacular canyon can be accessed walk in from the back or as an abseil from the start accessed halfway down the Neates Glen side of the trail. Make sure you do the highlight of what is already a spectacular walk!
Another wild dog that was content to just sit and watch me as I went about my way.
These dogs that I encounter are not scared ,they don't spook and take flight, they watch being ever so curious.
I think that they know instinctively that we could be friend (and hopefully that I could not be a potential meal 😳😉😊)

The Funnel-web Spider is potentially the most dangerous spider in the world🕷🌎. They are rarely sighted in @queensland as they tend to inhabit moist cool rainforests around the D’Aguilar region, @qldparks 🌲🌲. In these rainforests, insects are plentiful, particularly crickets. With venom 3-5 times stronger than that of the female, this male easily paralyses his prey with a quick bite and shortly returns to drag it back into his web, where he will feast.🕸
Rain dumping down around the richmond area, viewed from the lockleys pylon track. Thats Mt Hay road snaking around the mountain. Its all about timing, good luck and having your camera on you at all times. 🤙
